(AFP) - A 26-year-old US man was shot dead in a taco restaurant in northwestern Mexico, a Mexican justice official said Thursday.
The official from Sinaloa state, the cradle of Mexico's drug trafficking industry, told AFP that family members had identified the victim as Christopher Elecnis Mandil, a musician from Arizona.
He had been dining with his girlfriend Wednesday in the state capital Culiacan when he was shot at point blank range by a man who fled on foot, the official added, without giving a possible motive for the crime.
The US embassy in Mexico City declined to comment.
Police found the bodies of three other men suspected to be victims of drug violence elsewhere in the city, the attorney general's office said.
The Pacific state is home to the powerful Sinaloa drug gang, one of a string of criminal organizations blamed for rising violence in Mexico.
More than 30,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence since December 2006, when President Felipe Calderon ordered a military crackdown on the country's powerful drug cartels.
