Shipment of Watermelons Yields Second Largest Dope Seizure
Shipment of Watermelons Yields Second Largest Dope Seizure in Nogales
(Monday, June 16, 200
Nogales, Ariz. — Saturday afternoon proved to be eventful for Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales port of entry when they stopped an attempt to smuggle in more than 5,000 pounds of marijuana hidden among watermelons.
At a little before 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, CBP officers were screening commercial shipments coming into the United States when they noticed a problem with a tractor-trailer hauling a load of watermelons from Mexico and suspected a possible attempt at smuggling contraband into the country. The officers called for a narcotics detector dog to assist them with a preliminary search and after the dog alerted to narcotics odor coming from the trailer, decided a thorough search was necessary.
The tractor-trailer was sent in to the Customs and Border Protection commercial compound for an inspection and, after an x-ray scan showed anomalies with the contents, officers began unloading the trailer. As the containers of watermelons were being unloaded, officers noticed bundles of what later tested to be marijuana hidden inside the containers, mixed in with the watermelons.
In all, officers discovered 200 bundles of marijuana, weighing almost 5,191 pounds. The marijuana, which could have an estimated street value of up to $8.3 million, was seized along with the vehicle. The driver was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
This is the second-largest marijuana seizure in Nogales. The largest occurred a little more than one year ago, on June 2, 2007, when CBP officers discovered 6,160 pounds of marijuana hidden in with a commercial load of tomatoes.
Since then, CBP officers have stopped several attempts at smuggling large quantities of marijuana into the country mixed with produce, including several in recent months. On April 28, 2008, officers seized 3,418 pounds of marijuana hidden among pallets of cucumbers and on April 16, 2008, officers seized 1,340 pounds of marijuana hidden among tomatoes.
This seizure brings the total weight of marijuana seized this fiscal year at the Nogales port of entry to 25,647 pounds.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

We seem to constantly get all kinds of extra surprises from Mexico.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Is this a new scheme--buy a pound of pot and get a free watermelon?
Illegal aliens and tons of drugs are smuggled into the United States hidden in trucks containing Mexican produce--watermelons, bell peppers, avacadoes, tomatoes, to name a few.
This means there is a conspiracy involving:
Mexican farmers/growers/marketers
Mexican trucking companies
Mexican truck drivers
Mexican drug cartels
Mexican human smugglers
U.S. importers of the produce
U.S. based drug dealers
This is not a difficult trail to follow.
Who owned the truck?
Where was it loaded and with whose produce?
What was it's destination?
Was the truck part of Bush's pilot truck program?
BAN PRODUCE FROM ANY GROWER/MARKETER INVOLVED IN SMUGGLING.
DENY U.S. ENTRY TO EVERY TRUCKING FIRM CONNECTED TO SMUGGLING.
SEARCH EVERY TRUCK FROM MEXICO.
BETTER YET--NO MORE MEXICAN TRUCKS, SUV'S, VANS, TRAILERS, BUSES, and PICK-UPS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CROSS THE BORDER!
WITHDRAW FROM NAFTA."Distrust and caution are the parents of security."

How many of these 'surprises' get through? Obviously a lot and our country really can not afford anymore surprises. Contraband smugglers and invaders just don't stop because a few get caught.
We are NOT a nation of immigrants!

AND UM......THE FOOD IS BEING TRANSPORTED WITH DRUGS. NOT GOOD.
THIS IS WHY WE KEEP GETTING INFECTED FOOD. WHO KNOWS WHAT TRUCKS THESE DRUG PACKS WERE IN BEFORE THEY WERE PUT WITH WATERMELONS.
WERE THEY ON A CHICKEN TRUCK? BEING TRANSPORTED WITH CHICKENS....AND THEN PUT IN WITH WATERMELONS? WASH THOSE WATERMELONS WITH BLEACH!!!! BETTER YET DONT BUY ANY WATERMELONS FOR AWHILE.
AND WHERE WERE THESE DRUG PACKS PROCESSED...AND UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS? NOT SANITARY CONDITIONS I BET. AND THEN THEY ARE MIXED IN WITH OUR FOOD?Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
