Delegates call for guest-worker veto

Dozens of displeased Republican delegates called on the governor to veto a guest-worker bill Thursday.

The Capitol Rotunda rally — which attracted about 60 people — targeted HB116, a controversial immigration measure that would allow undocumented immigrants to receive a guest-worker permit if they pay a fine and pass a criminal-background check.

Republican opponents condemned the bill as amnesty and said pledged to punish Herbert at the polls if he doesn’t veto it.

Brandon Beckham, an Orem delegate, said the bill would reward illegal behavior and open the floodgates for more immigrants. Although many GOP delegates supported Herbert’s election, Beckham said many see HB116 as “irresponsibleâ€
