We need to make a list sometime for the fun of it on how the media gets around the word 'illegal.' "Immigrant-Friendly." Don't think I've seen that one yet.

Tyson Joins Immigrant-Friendly Coalition

Tyson Foods Inc. is teaming up with other major Arkansas-based businesses, churches and civic groups to fight state and local laws targeting immigrants.

The Arkansas Friendship Coalition (AFC) said it plans to lobby elected officials and speak to civic groups to encourage what it called a "reasonable and respectful approach" to the immigration debate in Arkansas, noting that immigrants are an integral part of the state's communities and economies.

"We are a nation of immigrants," the group said in a prepared statement. "The very foundations of our country were built on the hopes, dreams and aspirations of immigrants, hopes and dreams of a land of opportunity that would provide a better life for their families. Those same aspirations today imbue the more than 100,000 immigrants who have come to call Arkansas home."

AFC contends that state and local governments shouldn't be spending money to resolve what amounts to a federal issue.

"It is critically important to American business that comprehensive immigration reform be passed by Congress, but this is a problem that can only be fixed at that level," said Archie Shaffer, Tyson's senior vice president for external affairs. "State and local governments should not be involving themselves in issues that only Congress can really address."
