Lou Dobbs Tonight
Friday August 15, 2008

Tonight, we’ll be wrapping up the week with a panel of our
regular political contributors. We’ll have all the latest from
the campaign trail and an update on Russia’s violent incursion
into Georgia. Plus:

* The tanking economy is a major issue this presidential
election. But given a choice between solving economic problems
for ordinary Americans or helping to boost the already-rich
business magnates and CEOs that have fared so well under
President Bush, it’s clear where Senator McCain and Senator
Obama’s priories lie. After all, an endorsement from a big CEO
might lend economic credibility to the candidates. Helping
working men and women who are struggling for basic necessities?
That just doesn’t have as much cachet.

* The Bureau of Economic Analysis will no longer provide
details on direct foreign investment in the U.S. The BEA says
it can’t afford to distinguish between investors acquiring U.S.
companies and those simply adding capacity in the U.S. But
critics of the new policy say the BEA is obscuring the fact
that core U.S. assets are being gobbled up by foreign giants.

* And in our weekly tribute to the men and women who serve our
nation in uniform, we’ll have the story of Master Sergeant
Brendan O'Connor. O’Connor is a medic with the Army's elite
Special Forces. He has served as a Green Beret for 30 years but
he saw combat for the first time in 2006 in Afghanistan. His
team surrounded and U.S. soldiers wounded, O'Connor risked his
life to save the lives of others.

Lou’s new radio program, the Lou Dobbs Show, debuted in March.
Join us weekdays from 3-6 p.m. Eastern, for a look at news and
politics aimed at independent thinkers. Check your local
listings at LouDobbsRadio.com, or listen live online.

Today, Rep. Elton Gallegly will be on the program. Gallegly
says that eliminating illegal immigration is the way to close
California’s budget deficit. Hartford, Connecticut, has
apparently decided that immigration status doesn’t really
matter. Gerry Pleasant, the former deputy chief of police, will
talk to Lou about the city’s new ordinance barring police
inquiries about immigration status and its implications. And we
will be taking your calls on the Independent Hotline at
1-877-55 DOBBS.

Lou’s book INDEPENDENTS DAY is now on sale in bookstores and on
Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. In Independents Day, Lou
issues a rallying cry to American citizens eager for a change,
focusing particularly on the critical issues and challenges of
the 2008 election.
