The Town of Chapel Hill, Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, and the AARP are sponsoring a Latino Scam Jam. It is being held on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M at Saint Thomas More Church. This is the same day as the church’s Community Health Fair.

Scam Jam is an educational program of the Chapel Hill Police Department. The goal is to teach attendees about how to prevent themselves from being victims of financial fraud, identity theft, and other scams. This year the focus will be the Latino Community. Issues to be addressed include English language course scams, the importance of using banks, as well as driver license and identification information. Presenters include representatives from the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, El Pueblo, and the Bank of America.

All sessions will be conducted in Spanish.

Latino Scam Jam is free and everyone is welcome.[/i]
