Man Accused in Four Sexual Battery Counts in Topeka

A Topeka man is accused in four different cases of sexual battery.

Shantane Singh, 49, is accused of harassing four women at different times, all at his place of work.

Singh is accused of sexual battery of a 20 year old female resident of an apartment of which he was manager. This offense was alleged to have ocurred when he was in her apartment to fix a plumbing fixture.

Singh is next charged with Sexual Battery of an 18 year old woman when she was in the Amerigas convenience store, 4601 SW Topeka Boulevard. The woman was a customer at the store, where Singh was working as a clerk.

He is also charged with another Sexual Battery offense. This one is alleged to have ocurred against another female customer, age 44, of Amerigas. The DA's office says the woman entered the store after pumping gas to make payment, where it is alleged Defendant "bear hugged" her, unzipped her coat, grabbed her buttocks, but then let her go when other customers were seen approaching the store.

Finally, it is alleged Singh made small talk with a 23 year old female customer while working at Amerigas. He then allegedly pretended to help her find merchandise, put his arms around her and tried to kiss her. As she tried to pay and leave, Singh again put his arms around her and opened her mouth to kiss her and as she was able to get loose from him, he grabbed her inappropriately.

Singh has been arrested and, as a condition of any bond, District Attorney Robert Hecht is asking the Court to prohibit Singh from any employment that would bring him in contact with females, at least until he's been psychiatrically evaluated.

Singh's immigration status is also being explored. The DA said these allegations may be more serious than on first impression in that he is the owner of the business, hence, not subject to preventive actions by an employer.

It seems that we are importing a lot of men who think that American women and children are fair game.
