Editor's note: It's Politics reports Saturdays on the ins and outs of San Gabriel Valley-area politics and city government.

Rep. David Dreier has asked President Bush to consider granting pardons to Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean who are serving terms of 12 and 11 years, respectively, for the 2005 shooting of Mexican drug smuggler Osbaldo Aldrete.

Dreier, R-San Dimas, was joined by Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wisconsin, and Lamar Smith, R-Texas, in writing to Bush.

"Like you, we understand the vital role of our Border Patrol in protecting our nation from terrorism," their letter states.

"These brave men and women provide the frontline protection for our borders and are responsible for enforcing our laws. Given the ongoing controversy, we remain concerned with this case and its potential impact on the ability of the Border Patrol to perform its duties," they stated.

NEW OFFICE: Rep. David Dreier has a new district office.

It's at 510 E. Foothill Blvd., Suite 201, San Dimas, CA 91773. Phone number is (909) 575-6226.
