TRENTON, N.J., May 4 -- The New Jersey Assembly Republicans issued the following news release:

A new study from the Pew Research Center proves that those who claim New Jersey workers and taxpayers aren't being hurt by the presence of vast number of illegal immigrants are wrong said Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce today. The Pew study comes after Governor Jon Corzine's Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel on Immigrant Policy made several public policy recommendations including permitting illegal immigrants the opportunity to obtain a driver's license and offering in-state college tuition to those who are undocumented. "The findings of an independent research center, such as Pew, should give everyone involved in public policy a reason to carefully consider and understand the impact illegal immigrants have on New Jersey," stated DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic.

"The so-called 'Blue Ribbon' panel appointed by the governor proposes changes that will arguably cost taxpayers more and provide an undue benefit to those who illegally live in the state. Instead of providing additional incentives for undocumented immigrants to locate in New Jersey, we should be looking to forge policies that protect those who legitimately reside here." The Pew Study found that New Jersey has the fifth highest percentage of undocumented immigrants in the country and the highest percentage of unverified workers east of Arizona. "It would be a huge public policy mistake to embrace the panel's suggestions," continued DeCroce. "The enormous costs associated with illegal immigration are an expense that the state is absorbing at a time when families are struggling with high taxes and making ends meet. We simply cannot afford to continue on this path. Our efforts should be aimed at assisting those who immigrated legally, instead of promulgating legislation that entices more undocumented people to migrate into the state."For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com
