Rep King:Napolitano should focus on protecting U.S., not Mex

Napolitano should focus on protecting U.S., not Mexico
    Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 5/5/2009 4:00:00 AM

An Iowa Congressman is outraged that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is more concerned about stopping legally-made U.S. guns from entering Mexico than she is about stopping illegal drugs and illegal aliens from penetrating the United States from Mexico.

As the ranking Republican on the Immigration Sub-committee, Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) says he is not prepared to join other members of Congress who are calling for Napolitano's resignation. Nonetheless, he admits he is outraged at the recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo that singled out members of the military and supporters of conservative causes as potential domestic terrorists.

He also admits displeasure with the direction the DHS has taken on the immigration enforcement front.

"Worksite enforcement is suspended. The resources have been redirected to the border. They're being used to intercept legal U.S. guns before they go south into Mexico," King explains. "And this administration has had top-level people repeat the same falsehood, which is that 90 percent of the guns used in violent crimes in Mexico come from the United States. That's not true. It's never been true, but the real number is something like 17 percent.

King believes stopping guns from going south is not likely to change the violence in Mexico. He believes that DHS, instead, should clamp down on drugs and illegal aliens coming into the U.S. as well as resume worksite enforcement raids that had been effective before their suspension.

I agree with King. These cartels have tons of money and can buy weapons anywhere in the world. Stopping them from purchasing weapons in the United States is not going to make a spittle of difference.

I'm with the guy on everything except this:

As the ranking Republican on the Immigration Sub-committee, Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) says he is not prepared to join other members of Congress who are calling for Napolitano's resignation.
And my reply is why the hell not? Maybe that's one of the many reasons why the Republican party has been getting killed in the polls the last two elections. You guys absolutely lack a spine. I hate the Dems with a passion, but at least they have somewhat of a spine when it comes to taking out a Republican of questionable character. They had no problems ripping apart the Bush administration, but yet these Republicans want to play nice with the Dems, especially the BO administration because god forbid they might get called a name or labeled a racist. Nothing has changed, some Republicans might say all the right things, but in the end they are nothing, but a bunch of political wimps. That is why they are a joke to me.

Funny, Janet told the HLS committee she did not need anymore money, she supposedly had enough to do everything, now we are hearing she diverted funds from the border??? what a lieing piece of crap, and she has the nerve to call patriotic Americans terrorist.....I think she should list herself as a terrrorist since she doesn't give a crap about protecting Americans.

I wonder if Calderon has a position for her? because he is welcome to her! she seems to be doing a better job for Mexico than she is for the U.S..

Nastypolitano has been given the job to dismantle the border. First you deflect attention from the incoming crap (drugs and illegal aliens) by diverting resources to support the bs lie perpetrated by her and Chicago Mobster Left Fingers Louis Obama of guns going to drug cartels. Then you claim you don't need any more money for border security even though border patrol and border sheriffs are vastly undermanned, under resourced and outgunned by drug cartels. The last step is diverting badly needed funds from border security despite the drug cartel violence spilling across the border and spreading throughout the country. I have said this government doesn't give a g-d damned horse's ass how many Americans are murdered, raped, molested, kidnapped, whose identities are stolen, and others victimized from many other crimes committed by the hordes of illegal alien criminals, drug cartels, MS-13 and other gangs and terrorists encouraged, allowed and aided in crossing the border by this so called government who cares only about open borders, cheap labor and more voters.

Cocaine Highways: Post-NAFTA, Most Drugs Cross U.S. Borders in Trucks

Mexican Cartels Using Huge Fleet of 18-Wheelers, Only 5% Inspected at Border Crossing

By RICHARD ESPOSITO, ASA ESLOCKER, and BRIAN ROSS
    April 16, 2009—

Most of the drug shipments smuggled into the United States by the Mexican cartels are hidden in trucks that drive across U.S. border checkpoints in plain sight, with little fear of inspection, U.S. law enforcement officials tell ABC News.

Only about 5 percent of trucks coming into the country from Mexico are inspected, according to U.S. officials.

"It is just too costly and too slow given the volume of trucks to actually try to stop and inspect each and every truck," said Juan Zarate who dealt with the issue in the Geroge W. Bush White House as Deputy National Security Director.

The number of trucks coming into the U.S. has steadily increased since the passage of NAFTA in 1993. Almost 3,000,000 loaded container trailers crossed at border checkpoints last year.

"It does open up the potential for drug networks to take advantage, but I think it is something we have to find alternative ways of addressing," said Zarate.

Any attempt to inspect all trucks crossing the border, "would have a hugely negative impact in terms of commercial traffic and trade between the United States and Mexico," said Zarate, who also held the position of Deputy National Security Advisor for Combating Terrorism.

"You would see lines like you wouldn't believe," he said.

The Mexican cartels' fleet of 18-wheelers has long since replaced the Caribbean air drops and speed boats used by the Colombian cartels in the 1980's and 1990's, the era of "Miami Vice".

And major cities at interstate highway junctions, like Atlanta, have become important hubs for the Mexican cartels.

"Atlanta is a central trans-shipment point for pushing narcotics to some of the largest distribution cells in the United States," said Rodney Benson, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA office in Atlanta.

Drug Agents Stakeout Truck Stops and Trail 18 Wheelers

Instead of tracking fancy sports cars at glitzy night clubs in Miami, federal drug agents now spend a lot of their time trailing behind huge 18-wheel trucks and conducting surveillance at interstate truck stops.

Flying over Atlanta's "Spaghetti Junction," the intersection of interstates I-85 and I-285, Benson pointed out the truck stops and warehouses where his agents have made major arrests and drugs seizures.

"It's also a major money collection point," said Benson. "They do operate with a business-like efficiency," he said.

Federal agents and local police say the Mexican cartels often rent homes in quiet, upscale suburban neighborhoods for their operatives.

"You couldn't build a better environment to camouflage this activity," said Gwinnett County district attorney Danny Porter.

In a major raid last week, aimed at the Atlanta operations of Mexico's Gulf Cartel, police and federal agents raided 16 locations and arrested 21 people.

Nearby residents were shocked to learn their neighbors might be connected to the Mexican cartels.

"Their daughter goes to school with my daughter," said Amber Youngblood of Duluth, Georgia. "It makes you think twice about who your neighbors are," she said.

I moved to Arizona a couple of days before she was voted in. I have not stopped regretting it. This place is like Mexico. And the crime has moved steadily north and gotten worse since she got into office. The whole time she was in all she ever said was "it's the Feds fault". Now she is the Fed and it's her fault. I think she is useless. As are half the Hispanic politicians we have here. All they ever do is vote for issues that help illegals. They care nothing for the country.

But, I do have concerns about her leaving office. She will return to Arizona. YUCK!

Well, I'm making plans to move out of this place anyway. Hope she doesn't follow.

P.S. I'm a terrorist because I think we should enforce our immigration laws and I'm not so much for abortion anymore. Anyone else out there a terrorist with me?
