RIALTO
Hit-and-run suspect arrested

Motorist Oscar Delgado might have been just cited and sent home Saturday after reportedly hitting a man - unintentionally - who was crossing Foothill Boulevard.

But witnesses said Delgado fled in the green, older-model Chevrolet van after the 10:30 a.m. collision between Cedar and Linden avenues, Rialto police Sgt. Jim Gibbons said.

A 35-year-old man was attempting to cross Foothill to the north to reach a Food 4 Less shopping center and was nearly hit by two other vehicles before being struck by Delgado, Gibbons said.

One witness was able to provide officers with a license-plate number of the van believed to have struck the victim. It was traced back to Delgado's San Bernardino home, where Delgado, 26, was arrested, Gibbons said.

Police learned Delgado was an illegal immigrant who was driving without a license and insurance and had a $15,000 warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on street-racing charges, Gibbons said.
