Border Patrol seizes 2,000 pounds of pot
    FROM STAFF REPORTS
    July 19, 2007 - 3:13PM
U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Yuma sector seized almost 2,000 pounds of marijuana Thursday in two separate incidents along the U.S.-Mexico border today.

The first seizure occurred at 6:40 a.m. Thursday after agents foiled a smuggling attempt by two vehicles that illegally entered the United States.

A white Ford flatbed pickup and a maroon Hummer entered the country from Mexico about six miles northwest of the U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz., according to a news release from Border Patrol officials.

Agents responded and both vehicles attempted to return to Mexico.

The Hummer successfully absconded but the truck became stuck in the sand. The driver then fled back to Mexico on foot.

Agents inspected the vehicle and found the rear seat area of the truck's cab packed tightly with multiple bundles of marijuana. Additional bundles were also found in a fuel tank mounted on the truck's bed, according to the release.

The vehicle and marijuana were transported to the Border Patrol Yuma station, where a total of 58 bundles weighing 1,076 pounds were extracted.

The marijuana has an estimated street value of $860,000.

A registration check revealed the truck was reported stolen from El Centro.

The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was turned over to the Cocopah Tribal Police, according to the release.

Later Thursday afternoon, agents discovered another 936 pounds of marijuana worth $749,000 in an abandoned vehicle about 20 miles east of the San Luis port of entry.

Another example of the hard working, family oriented, America loving illegal aliens...oops!, I mean, undocumented Americans.
