A cameraman for the NBC affiliate in Houston was captured on home video sporting a Mexican flag on his camera while covering a rally in the Texas city that supported illegal immigrants, drawing angry shouts from counter-protesters.

In the first of two clips posted on YouTube.com, a counter-protester with a bull horn can be heard condemning the cameraman's flag.

"Why does Channel 2 News have a Mexican flag on their camera?" the man asked. ....

The second YouTube clip shows a woman, after considerable protest of the cameraman, mounting an American flag alongside the Mexican banner on the camera. The cameraman helps the woman secure the U.S. flag in place.

    (Story continues below)

A female voice from among the counter-demonstrators then is heard shouting angrily into a bullhorn.

"We are going to let Americans across the country know what you have done today. You are a disgrace, you need to be shut down. … "

The confrontation took place Saturday as hundreds of people marched to Houston's Mason Park for a rally in support of illegal immigrants. The Houston Chronicle reported the marchers blew whistles, banged on drums and chanted through loudspeakers as they carried U.S. and Mexican flags. Banners included one that said: "Amor sin la frontera: Love has no borders."

The paper said the counter-demonstrators were representatives of the group U.S. Border Watch, who stood across the street and waved American flags, chanting back at the marchers.

Curtis Collier, president of U.S. Border Watch, told the Chronicle his group is working every day to "save the sovereignty of this nation."

He believes more Americans are aware now of the issue of illegal immigration.

"I do think the American people are now aware of the problems – illegal immigration is putting a strain our on schools, our social services system and our justice system," Collier said.

May Day, May Day: Channel 2 of Houston, Mexico

    By Debbie Schlussel

In honor of May Day, TV reporters--and EVEN cameramen--show their allegiance to illegal aliens and other countries.

Sharp and observant reader Brian from Houston sends me this photo and accompanying video he shot at an anti-illegal alien pre-May Day protest in Houston. Note the upper left-hand side of the photo. the cameraman has a Mexican flag attached to it. It's more visible in the video, also posted below. (Brian's group later gave the man an American flag to affix on his camera, while he smirked.)

    Brian writes:

    Debbie,
I was video taping with my anti illegal alien group at a protest on Saturday. Our Houston NBC affiliate was at the protest to do a story. . . . The NBC cameraman had a Mexican flag attached to his camera! . . . Doesn't the news media state that they are non-partisan, non-participating observers, dedicated to bringing the truth in reporting? Isn't that what they teach at journalism school? Fair and balanced, unbiased and non partisan, right? Ha!

Brian also has an extensive collection of 300 videos of anti-illegal alien protesting and border operations on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/profile_play_list?user=75273

Is anyone else old enough to remember saying the Pledge of Allegiance in school before starting classes for the day? (I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, ONE nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.) Is that done anymore or has it been stopped so as to not make illegals uncomfortable? They may not enjoy facing the American flag with their hand over their heart, especially if they love waving the mexican flag. I don't see anything wrong with keeping traditions, but I have a problem with illegals claimimg "love" for a foreign country (not just the traditions) as that implies divided loyalties at best, and if these people really want all the rights of citizens, they should become citizens, not dual citizens, and they shouldn't remain loyal to the flag (the government) of Mexico.
NBC must have been aware of what this cameraman was doing. If NBC likes boycotts so much, we should boycott them for a day. If this guy costs them some $$ maybe they will fire him instead of just "disciplining" him with a slap on the hand. I'm sure one of the many Spanish-language stations will hire him.

The cameraman is obviously one of those folks that believe "all for the race............"
