Man Told To Pay Taxes On $40K Earned By Illegal Immigrant

THORNTON, Colo. -- The Internal Revenue Service went after an Arvada man for taxes on income he did not earn because his Social Security number was used by an undocumented immigrant to work at a Thornton landscaping firm, a CALL7 Investigation found.

Ted Vidimos received a letter from the IRS last year, saying he owed more than $8,000 in taxes on about $40,000 the IRS believed he earned at landscaping company Urban Farmer since 2008, IRS records provided by Vidimos show. Vidimos questioned the hiring practices at Urban Farmer because of the facts around the hiring of the man who stole his identity.

Pedro Vega-Hernandez, 39, had worked for Urban Farmer since the early 2000s. In 2008, the Social Security Administration notified Urban Farmer management that Vega-Hernandez did not have a valid Social Security number and Urban Farmer fired him, police records show. Vega-Hernandez returned a week later with a driver’s license and Social Security number showing he was Ted Vidimos, and Urban Farmer rehired him, according to the police report.
Wow,he comes back to the employer with a different name! And they didn't know????????????????????????

It happens all of the time around here. My DH has had that happen at his company and several friends have told me about it happening at Tysons!

Of course they knew, or at least should have known when a guy comes back a week later with a completely different name and a social security number that suddenly appears to match the new name.

This is just another example of the little game employers play when hiring these criminals. When they get caught they simply shrug their shoulders and play stupid, with claims of gee....we had no idea!

Meanwhile, the poor guy who had his identity stolen has to spend the next two years trying to convince our government ( who is allowing this to happen in the first place) that he was the victim of identity theft, which must be a nightmare in of itself.

A couple years ago, my son was working at a restaurant, where a latino woman quit her job and was rehired, three times, each time with a different name, both first and last names. The last two times using anglo sounding names.

I have heard of this happening here in N CArolina as well. Theone that really stands out is the time a Hispanic got a DUI and went back to his job with a different name. It is just AMAZING what these poeple do and get away with.

What angers me is that the IRS will not notify a citizen when his/her SSN is being compromised. They have contact information so there's no excuse. Credit agencies, store, even your employer, have access to that information but not the rightful owner of the SSN.
