Study: Kentucky's Immigrant Youth Face Tough Transition To Adulthood
    Jun 27, 2008

Louisville, KY – In Kentucky, as across the nation, children in immigrant families are a growing part of the population and future workforce. However, as the number of immigrant youth has increased in recent years, programs and services that would help them succeed in school and become productive adults have not kept pace, according to a new issue brief released today by Kentucky Youth Advocates.

The report, Making their Way: Helping Kentucky’s Immigrant Youth Successfully Transition into Adulthood, found that language and cultural barriers are leading more immigrant youth to drop out of high school and enter a cycle of low-paying jobs and unemployment. According to the brief, 41 percent of Kentucky’s older immigrant youth, aged 16 to 19, speak English “not wellâ€

It's not because they can't speak English it is because they do not want to speak English and it is made so easy for them today there is know need for them to learn....Another policy by our U.S. government.

If the congress made English the official Language and everything in America was printed in English Only there would be more incentive to learn it.

    Study: Kentucky

Since this story only refers to immigrants, I have a question.

How many "immigrant" children are admitted legally each year into the US? Of those admitted, how many countries or languages are represented?

Let's say our current "immigration" system allows children from 20 countries to "immigrate" each year. Our scholls would then be expected to hire bi-lingual teachers for each language represented at each school.

This is impossible. Children coming to America must learn English. After school classes, for a fee to offset teacher expenses, might be a good idea. We certainly can not be expected to teach each foreign student in his or her native language.

Now, if by "immigrant" children, this article means Illegal immigrants of Latino race, then of course we must provide special classes and teachers and lessons on the culture of Latinos. Not to mention free breakfast, lunch, before and after school daycare, free school supplies, clothes drives for shoes and backpacks, and medical screenings, vaccinations, transportation to consulates, scholarships, Hispanic student of the year awards, and have Spanish translations of all written materials.

There is just not enough we can do to make this special race of people feel welcomed.............

If they transition themselves southward, they would have no language or culture barriers.

It should not be the responsibilities of schools to teach immigrants English! They should have a basic command of the English language before they come here.

Learn English before you come to this country!!!
