U.S. to open borders to those with AIDS
U.S. to open borders to those with AIDS
Published: Aug. 10, 2008 at 6:09 PM
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A federal law banning foreigners with HIV or AIDS from entering the United States is coming to an end.
President Bush recently signed a bill giving $48 billion to fighting the disease that also removes the visitor provision from U.S. immigration law, reported the San Antonio Express News Sunday.
"Today everyone knows that you can't get AIDS from sitting next to someone on an airplane or sharing a bathroom -- American policy should reflect this," said Victoria Neilson, legal director of Immigration Equality, a New York advocacy group that welcomed an end to the ban.
The legal change doesn't fully remove restrictions on visitors with HIV or AIDS, the report said. They are still included on the Department of Health and Human Services' list of "communicable diseases of public health significance," along with tuberculosis, gonorrhea and leprosy. An HHS spokesman reportedly declined comment saying administrators are still reviewing the new federal law.

I have a BIG problem with this decision, not because these people have AIDS but because of the added burden to taxpayers and our healthcare system.
Our country is BANKRUPT,taxpayers nearly broken under the strain of Illegal Immigration and now our government decides to donate $50 BILLION dollars it does not have to World AIDS Relief ????
Americans are getting the shaft from our government and being robbed of money they should not be forced to pay.It is "Taxation Without Representation".Our taxes are suppose to go to fund our infrastructure, police etc. NOT take care of the world on money we do not have and our grandchildren will be paying for IF we still have a country when our free falling economy finally hits bottom."A Government big enough to give you everything you want,is strong enough to take everything you have"* Thomas Jefferson

Why should we pay for other countries sick people?
Now they'll come pouring in legally or illegally and overburden our overburdened penniless country.
This Sh*t has to stop!
The Law should be changed to say that they stay within 2 miles of the WhiteHouse.
That way your hospitals can go down Bush!
Or maybe a bunkhouse in Crawford while the wait for the FREE doctors appointments.
People without healthcare ought to be protesting about right now!
Maybe when none of us has a job and the price of gas
goes down we all can protest! If Palestine puts down their guns, there will be peace.
If Israel puts down their guns there will be no more Israel.

This needs to be on the evening news and in every newspaper
I would like to know who we the people can complain to so that this travesty of justice is not enacted. Any suggestions?

U.S. acts to open borders to foreigners with HIV
Hernán Rozemberg - Express-News After more than two decades on the books, a little-known yet strictly enforced federal law barring foreigners with HIV or AIDS from entering the country is on its way out.
Tucked in a bill pledging $48 billion to combat the disease, signed into law by President Bush last week, was language stripping the provision from federal immigration law.
But that change didn't fully lift the entry ban on visitors with HIV or AIDS, which applies whether they're on tourist jaunts or seeking longer stays. The secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services still needs to delete HIV from the agency's list of “communicable diseases of public health significance,â€Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...
