Three people have died after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent rammed into a minivan, plunging both vehicles into a ditch in Imperial County in Southern California.

California Highway Patrol Officer Pablo Torrez says the ICE agent drove past a stop sign before broadsiding the minivan Tuesday night in Imperial County. The agent survived.

Torrez says five people were in the van, including 1-year-old and 11-year-old girls. The victims who died were not immediately identified.

ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice says the agent is being treated at a hospital and is expected to recover.
