Police this morning were questioning several people in the slaying of a 22-year-old man during a possibly gang-related dispute on Chicago's Northwest Side.

The shooting occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday on the street in the 4200 block of West Armitage Avenue, in the city's Hermosa neighborhood, police said.

The victim, Epifanio Santos, and his friend were involved in a dispute with several other males, one of whom pulled out a handgun and fired, striking the victim in the head.

Santos, of the 1800 block of North Keeler Avenue, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. No one else was wounded.

The suspects fled east after the shooting, but detectives apprehended several people believed to be involved and were questioning them this morning at the Grand Central Area headquarters, 5555 W. Grand Ave., police said. No charges have been filed.

The dispute appeared to be gang-related, according to police.
