Immigrant advocates said Thursday that they have helped more than 5,000 legal immigrants in the Valley apply for citizenship in hopes of boosting the number of Latino voters this November.

Advocates are worried, however, that many of those who applied may not get to vote because the immigration service is not processing the requests fast enough because of backlogs created by a rush of new applications for citizenship.

Some of these people have been here for years without citizenship. All of a sudden when things aren't quite going their way, they need citizenship immediately so that they can vote in the 2008 election.

Didn't Bill Clinton do something like this before his second election? If I recall a huge amount-like hundreds of thousands? Does anyone else recall that?

We should ask if there are circumstances that would automatically bar such people from citizenship. One would think the bad eggs wouldn't be able to qualify..I don't know how that law works. Does anyone?

    This is really frustrating!!!

Unfortunately this is only going to get worse. As anchor babies come of age and are able to vote and Americans tend to have less children we are going to be outnumbered as far as the fight to keep "Illegals" out of our country. Many of the anchor babies have vested interests in voting for "amnesty" because of their families!

Another frustraging point is why (according to polls) is Huckabee and Mccain are leading in the polls and they are both a joke when it comes to "illegal immigration". I am really worried if we get Hillary, Obama, Mccain or Huckabee, (which in my opinion are cut from the same cloth) our country is going to be lost!
