    What is it about Arizona?

Some states deal with Hispanic issues. Then there is Arizona, which has issues with Hispanics.

Consider what officials in the Grand Canyon State have been up to lately on various fronts in what seems a concerted effort to harass Hispanics, both immigrants and U.S. citizens.

Slap 1: Arizona’s SB 1070. The irreparably flawed Hispanic profiling law was poorly crafted to begin with. Now, after being “fixedâ€

Ruben either belongs to the Eric Holder school of journalism - don't read the bill but comment anyway - or he deliberately misrepresents it's contents to further his Hispanic agenda. I suspect the latter.

I am a Native Californian and I have issues with illegal aliens. Here is one, I am unemployed, 30% of the jobs to which I applied turn me down because I am NOT a Latino... Here is another, January 1, 2001 unemployment rate was 4.1% REPEAT 9 years ago 1/1/01 unemployment was 4.1%. January 1, 2001 there were 7 million or so illegal aliens in the United States a portion of them in California... TODAY May 16, 2010 the national U3 unemployment rate is 10% and the U6 unemployment rate (long term) is 17%. In California those numbers are 13% U3 and 23% u6 (1 in 4 voters). Today 5/16/10 there are 23 million illegal aliens in the United States -- forget the illegal lover numbers of 12 million even La Raza says it is 16-18 million.

See a connection? 23 million illegals today and 27 million unemployed? End unemployment in the United States by deporting ALL illegal aliens, prevent offshoring, heavy tariffs on nations that use slave-like wage labor (China).

On another front people who moan about the Arizona law (I pray God California will follow but I think we are past the point of no return here), take a look at this article:

Article: Sarah Palin: Don't like Arizona's anti-illegal immigration law? Blame Obama!

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (l.) speaks as Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer sits with her at a press conference in Phoenix.

Sarah Palin has found a new villain in the anti-immigration battle burning in Arizona: President Obama.

The ex-Alaskan governor has placed the blame for the state's tough, widely criticized effort to combat illegal immigration on the White House.

"It's time for Americans across this great country to stand up and say 'We're all Arizonans now and, in clear unity, we say, 'Mr. President, do your job, secure our border,'" Palin said, standing with Gov. Jan Brewer in Phoenix on Saturday.

The event was designed to kick off securetheborder.org, a Web site which Gov. Brewer hoped would combat the negative press she and the law have gotten.

"Our purpose today is to help the rest of the nation understand the crisis which confronts our state," Brewer said, citing the presence of human and drug smugglers as a reason to get tough on illegal immigration.

The controversial law takes effect July 29, unless blocked by pending court challenges. It requires police enforcing another law to ask a person about his or her immigration status if there's "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally. Being in the country illegally would become a state crime.

Critics fear it would demand racial profiling to enforce, which would unfairly target the state's Hispanic population. Politicians and organizations throughout the country have slammed the law, including President Obama, who called it "misguided."

Backlash from Arizona's law could also cost the Phoenix area at least $90 million in revenue. Four major events have been canceled and others are on the brink, as calls for a boycott grow louder.

The Austin City Council voted unanimously last week to sever all city business and travel ties with Arizona. They have been joined by other cities such as Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, St. Paul, Minn., West Hollywood, Fla., El Paso, and Boulder, Colo.

Meanwhile, several states, including Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Maryland and Colorado are considering tougher illegal immigration laws in the wake of Arizona's efforts.

Yes, and if he mentions jobs at all, it's to claim that illegals do jobs that Americans won't do. That's nonsense, but he's encouraged by Obama's instructions to Senators Graham and Schumer to ensure a supply of unskilled labor.

In the United States envisaged by Obama, Americans all go to college and immigrants do all the low level jobs. More nonsense. Young Americans and Americans looking for stopgap employment have always done those jobs. If Obama is successful, Americans will be frozen out of jobs which really should be theirs for the taking.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post but I would like to make one minor correction in the above sentence. It is not that "Americans will be frozen out of jobs" - citizens already are!

The illegals smile and say "I am an American too." And they are correct. If we let them pull this off how many millions more from Peru, Ecuador, Brazil - will all be here? We must always make the distinction between American and US citizen.

"During the immigration surge of the 1990s, Arizona hired hundreds of teachers whose first language was Spanish as part of a bilingual-education program. This was in part because it was almost impossible to fill all of its available slots with U.S. citizens – most of whom are monolingual. Many of the recruits came from Latin America."

So how many Americans who went to college to get teaching degrees but were monolingual couldn't get positions in AZ during those years?

I don't buy their nonsense. So I just say, "No you're not. And what you are is out of here."
