Immigrant dies as van hit by shots on I-59 North
Police say victim was among 15-20 illegal immigrants

A man in a van filled with illegal immigrants was fatally shot Friday night on the Eastex Freeway, and the rest of the occupants drove away after dropping off the victim and three other men, police said.

Arturo Romero Villegas, 49, was one of 15 to 20 passengers in a white transport van with darkly tinted windows operated by Houston-based Transportes Tania. The van was on the feeder road north of Little York around 10:50 p.m. when Villegas asked the driver to pull over because something had "hit" him.

The driver pulled into the parking lot of La Tierra Prometida, a church at the corner of Darwin and Epson, one block east of the freeway.

Villegas' nephew and two other men got him out of the van. He died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said that four to six shots were fired from a small, two-door, dark-colored car going north on U.S. 59 North.

"Several people said that at first they thought they were hearing firecrackers," said sheriff's spokesman Lt. John Martin.

Authorities said the passengers are illegal immigrants and were headed to Seattle for work. A description of the van, which now has bullet holes on the left side, has been distributed nationally. It is unknown if the shooting is related to human smuggling.

Luisa Deason, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman in Houston, said that the agency is not involved in the investigation at this time.

Transportes Tania could not be reached for comment.

Sorry.....all I think of is "family values". Nothing like dumping you off in your hour of need. And they say Americans are "cold hearted" and not compassionate for wanting our laws enforced. Can't get much colder than that.

The people doing the shooting fired several rounds...but only one criminal invader was hit. The shooters wern't very accurate....but that is one criminal that the American taxpayer want have to provide welfare checks to, or subsidized housing, health care , ambulance rides, second language programs, court time, defense lawyers, prosecutors, or Jail space.
He want be able to have anymore illegitimate children or anchor babies for the American tax payer to provide education for, nor will Americans have to provide for his future children's children.

And this is one less tax stealing, social security number stealing , fraudulent document making, protesting in the streets for rights, social program stealing criminal/Invader/ that Bush, Kennedy, McCain, and Pelosi can offer Amnesty to.

Wow...I hate to see this kind of violence...for any reason

Sounds just like what's been happening in Green Valley, Arizona lately.

It is nothing new for people like that. When Cuban migrants die during the trip to Florida they throw the bodies in the ocean.
If this immigration problem is not dealt with then there will be more vigilantism. It has already started all over the country. Someone posted that a trailer used for day laborers was torched, in Fort Lauderdale they stole gift baskets intended for the poor at Easter, the increase in KKK activity and white supremacy groups and the shooting of illegals. This should send a message to the government that we don't need illegals here.

Hmmm, I wonder what the primary business of this outfit is

If this immigration problem is not dealt with then there will be more vigilantism.

It might be vigilantes (I certainly hope not) or it may be rival smuggling operations, or some other motive for that matter. Unfortunately, I imagine the vigilantes and hate groups will start coming out of the woodwork because our dysfunctional government has has so miserably failed to address the problem.

Hmmm, one would think ICE should be interested in this. If the van makes it to "Sanctuary Seattle" nothing will be done by local law enforcement.

ICE isn't interested in anything but maintaining the status quo.
