Although they have not seen much of an impact as of yet, Decatur police say they expect a decline in gang activity as a result of the illegal immigration law.

We're told the biggest issue for the city is "tagging", where gang members spray paint their symbol on signs and buildings.

Many of those tags belong to Latino gangs in the area.

Police say the immigration law does not help directly in cracking down on gang activity because most of the gang members are juvenile.

However, the law could mean a drop in membership.

"Because most are juvenile, it would be if their parents move out of town, they would take them with them. We haven't really seen that increase or decrease since the law passed," said Sgt. Mike Cowart.

Sergeant Cowart says most of these gang members are younger teenagers being recruited in the school system.
