A Kane County judge has sentenced a Crystal Lake man to five years in prison for raping a woman in Carpentersville last.

The 35-year-old defendant, Mario Lagunes-Rodriguez was convicted in a bench trial in May by Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher, who also handed down the sentence Wednesday.

Prosecutors said the assault happened last September after Lagunes-Rodriguez lured an acquaintance to a restaurant parking lot in Carpentersville.

By law, Lagunes-Rodriguez must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He was credited for 351 days already served, meaning he could be released in about 3 1/2 years.

Lagunes-Rodriguez, who is an undocumented immigrant, also faces deportation after completing his sentence and must register as a sex offender for life.
