Man accused of trying to stab customs officer in Douglas

Brian J. Pedersen Arizona Daily Star | Posted: Friday, July 2, 2010 8:23 am

An 18-year-old Willcox man was arrested Thursday after allegedly attempting to stab a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent in Douglas.

The man, whose name was not released, was attempting to re-enter the U.S. at the Douglas Port of Entry about 3 p.m. Thursday when customs agents noticed he kept his hands in his pockets, according to a CBP news release.

When agents asked him to take his hands out of his pocket he produced a knife and attempted to stab one of the agents, the release said.

The agent was able to block the stabbing attempt, and the man was detained and later transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

He faces charges of assault on a federal officer.

Um . . . the article calls him a "Willcox man," not an illegal. He may be a citizen who went across the line to get medicine for someone.

Another article states that the perp is a US citizen - still could be an anchor baby or something like that and I suspect that is most likely that they are trying to not aggravate the tension by stating his name if it is Hispanic.

US citizen attempts to stab Border Patrol officer

    Associated Press - July 2, 2010 12:04 PM ET

DOUGLAS, Ariz. (AP) - A Customs and Border Protection officer was nearly stabbed as a U.S. citizen was re-entering the country from Mexico at the Douglas port-of-entry Thursday afternoon.

The Border Patrol says officers were screening pedestrian traffic when a man pulled a knife from his pocket and attempted to stab the officer.

Border Patrol officers said they noticed the man kept his hands in his pant pockets.

When he was told to show his hands, authorities say he stepped toward an officer, removed his hands from his pocket and attempted to stab the officer with a knife.

The border officer blocked the stabbing attempt. Afterward, officers took the 18-year-old from Willcox into custody.

The man, whose name was not released, was handed over to Cochise County law enforcement and was booked on assault on a federal officer.

He is a Citizen huh? Then why was he transferred to ICE custody? The other article says he was turned over to Cochise County law enforcement. One of these articles is wrong.

illegal alien or legal US Citizen. its still federal assault of an officer.
IF he was a legal citizen though born somewhere else, he can have the citizenship revoked and he can be deported back to his original country
