More than $845,000 in drugs seized

More than $845,000 worth of drugs were seized this week by U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to San Diego-area checkpoints, authorities said Friday.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested Sunday morning after drugs were found in her 2001 Ford Explorer at the Interstate 8 checkpoint in Pine Valley. The woman, a U.S. citizen, appeared nervous and had been referred to secondary inspection.

Agents found 27 bundles of methamphetamine and four bundles of marijuana. The drugs had an estimated street value of $145,000, Border Patrol Agent Scott E. Simon said.

On Monday afternoon, agents seized a total of nine bundles of cocaine from a diaper bag and a purse in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer stopped at the Interstate 5 checkpoint in San Clemente. The driver, a 21-year-old woman who is U.S. citizen, was arrested. The cocaine had an estimated street value of $218,000.

On Tuesday morning, a 27-year-old man driving a 1993 Mazda minivan was referred to secondary inspection at the Interstate 15 Border Patrol checkpoint in Temecula because he appeared nervous. Six bundles of cocaine were found inside a spare tire. The drug has an estimated street value of $169,000. The man, a Mexican citizen, was arrested.

On Wednesday morning, agents stopped a 1994 Cadillac being driven north on I-15 near Temecula. They found more than 15 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $313,000 in the vehicle.

A 20-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were arrested. The woman is a U.S. citizen; the man is a Mexican citizen.
