Lou Dobbs Tonight
Friday June 27, 2008

Tonight, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton held a rally for
Democratic unity in Unity, N.H. Obama’s speech focused on the
contrasts between his shared values and policy prescriptions
with Hillary Clinton, on the one hand, and the Republican
vision on the other. We’ll have live coverage from New
Hampshire and Washington. Plus:

* Americans and their communities may be shortchanged in terms
of federal money and Congressional representation due to our
broken census system. The census counts all people in this
country, including illegal aliens—and Congressional seats and
all kind of federal aid are allotted on the basis of those
population figures. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez spoke
on the subject today.

* You know the statistics: Crude oil above $142 a barrel.
Gasoline well past the $4 mark. Record heating oil, natural
gas, and electricity prices. With all that, the Bush
administration has halted solar energy development.

* Private companies and farmers are using technology to track
their fruits and vegetables right down to the field, row and
even tree they were grown. Why is the federal government so
slow to create and demand such measures?

* And in our weekly tribute to the men and women who serve our
nation in uniform, we’ll have the story of Marine Captain Ryan
Voltin. Voltin lost his leg during a training exercise in
Jordan when his Cobra helicopter was suddenly hit by friendly
fire. A U.S. warplane on the same exercise accidentally bombed
Voltin's helicopter, leaving the father of three fighting for
his life.
