Falling Flags

ABC News' Eloise Harper and Rick Klein Report: It's been a rough stretch for Hillary Clinton -- a tough debate performance, a lost voice, and the revelation that the Clinton campaign had been coaching questioners at events...

Then, on Sunday, everything started falling down around her.

After a very Presidential-esque news conference - Clinton turned around to leave the reporters and their peppering questions. A staffer swooped open a curtain, and chaos ensued. Four large American flags came crashing in front of Senator Clinton as she headed for the door. In a controlled panic, the staffers and the Senator attempted to catch the flags before they fell to the ground.

"I think the bases are not weighted enough." Clinton said as she propped flags back up. One of Clinton's aides quickly summoned the advance man in charge to assist in the crisis.

Clinton's spokesperson shifted back and forth between the cameras and the flag commotion before looking right at the cameras and saying "thanks everyone."

There were no planted questions to worry about, but on this Veterans Day - the flags dropping all around the Senator created quite a stir among the press before Clinton fled the scene.

Flag falling is something we have to watch very carefully. Obviously, this president and republican administration do not seriously address the concerns of the American people concerning flag falling. Why is it NOW that Mrs. Clinton seems so vulnerable and coming up lacking? She's the same Mrs. Clinton as always. The only thing now is she's competing with OTHER democrats, and the media don't feel so compelled to carry her water as when she competed with Lazio back in NY. "Listening tour"! What a crock! That just allowed Mrs. Clinton the ability to take pictures and nobody as her tough questions. But the media dutifully allowed her to get away with it. But now, things are different. Her opponents are other Democrats, and the facade has been lifted.

I can't wait to see the photos of this. I'll put them right up on my blog with the photo of Obama standing with his hands folded while the other candidates have their hand over their heart while the National Anthem is playing.

It's clear that none of the current crop of Democrats has the same reverance for the flag, and the great history it represents that you will find among almost any Republican candidate.

We need an immediate 9 month congressional investigation into flags, and why the bases are weighted the way they are, and with what material.
Then we need strict new laws governing how to weight flag bases, with harsh penalties and prison time for not following the rules.
A new federal office of flag base weighting will be budgeted for the DOE to ensure school children are taught the proper way to weight flag bases so this tragedy will not be repeated in the future.

I'm not that politically creative - but do you see a parallel between the media initially hopping on the Howard Dean bandwagon 4 years ago, when he simply let out a "Yaw!" after a strong performance and the media turned on him? He had the same goofy liberal policies as before, but I think the media determined "this guy can't win. We'd better get behind someone else." And Kerry was now the "chosen one". I think we're starting to see the same thing here with Hillary being "dissed" by the media for Obama.

Both the actual "news" story and the comments say all that needs to be said. Ryan, you would probably not recognize the amount of sacrifice most of the people here have made since you are obviously blinded by your hatred of Bush. My countries ideals are under attack by people who have pledged to kill you and me. The President and his Cabinet have done everything they can to protect us from people who have made it a oly mission to destoy us. Wake up and smell the burning aviation fuel.
