Our recent post — and poll — on the cost of illegal immigration has gotten a lot of discussion going about how those costs are counted, what the costs actually are and whether the cost of raising the child of an illegal immigrant should be part of the equation.

That got me wondering where people get their information about the actual financial burden — or benefits — of illegal immigration and about what people think the status of the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants should be.

One commenter had this to say about the cost issue:

Perhaps the OCR should read up on this issue before publishing such a politically correct piece of garbage. For one, start with the RAND study which reported handsdown that illegal aliens have a net negative effect on the economy. Then consider all of the other social problems with illegal immigration: disrespect for the English language, disrespect for the American culture, disrespect for immigration laws, and all of the crime perpetrated by illegals…

My question, which RAND study? I did a search on the RAND Corporation website and didn’t find anything specific to this topic. If OCVoice could send the URL I’ll post it.

In fact, any time you have a study you want us to check out, send it along.

Here are some stories we have done that cite RAND studies:

* Financial medicine for ERs kicks in
* Illegal immigrants and health care
* Changing the economics of illegal immigration
