If they make wrote on May 23, 2007 7:40 AM: " it a felony to cross the borders illegally does that then make the 50 Million illegal criminals here Felons? "

It's Amnesty wrote on May 23, 2007 10:41 AM: " We are bogged down in a semantic debate over whether the bill constitutes "amnesty." Open-borders apologists take umbrage at the term, saying the bill does not constitute amnesty because illegal immigrants will be punished, never mind how inconsequentially. But I would argue that those insisting it is amnesty are, in a sense, understating their case. In certain respects it's worse than amnesty. Not only will criminal violators of the immigration laws receive a mere wrist-slap for their infractions; they will be rewarded for them. Consider the treatment of those convicted of other crimes -- take stealing, for example. The convict not only faces criminal penalties; the law seeks to restore him and his victims to their status prior to the crime, to the extent that's practicable or possible. The bank robber is not allowed to retain the fruits of his crime. He must pay restitution, if applicable, in addition to whatever fines or jail time to which he is sentenced. By contrast, millions of illegal immigrants under the bill would not be sent back home but would become legal permanent residents of this country. By being allowed to stay, they would be, in effect, keeping the fruits of their crime. More importantly, many of them would become recipients of federal government largesse via a smorgasbord of entitlements. "

Gary in Murrieta wrote on May 23, 2007 10:53 AM: " Today the US Senate if trying to fast track the largest amnesty for illegal aliens in our nations history! This is a terrible bill, S. 1348, and it contains amnesty for the 12-22 million illegals in America, increases legal immigration by hundreds of thousands per year, requires Americans to pay trillions in new taxes and debts for benefits for illegal aliens, national biometric ID, and will lead to over 100 million new people in America within 20 years! We know that the vast majority of Americans oppose these measure but most of the Senators are listening to the illegal alien groups and the Global corporations within the US Chamber of Commerce instead of America's citizens. "

Gregg wrote on May 23, 2007 10:55 AM: " The comprehensive immigration legislation that is being bandied around town by this President and by Members of Congress will be a green light to 100 million people throughout the world to do anything they can do to get to our country because we do not have the will to stop them. "

It is only a matter wrote on May 23, 2007 11:02 AM: " of time before the citizens stop paying taxes to a government that doesn't listen. "

Political Trickery wrote on May 23, 2007 11:55 AM: " These guys can pass all the laws they want making this or that illegal, but they have demonstrated over and over again no will to provide funding to enforce the laws. With much fanfare they passed a bill to add fencing to the Mexican border and then quietly appropriated no money to build it. On the other hand, once the visas are handed out, there's no taking them back after the public discovers the new laws aren't enforced any better than the old laws. "

So the terrorist wrote on May 23, 2007 3:19 PM: " are now puting out videos how they are going to attack Washington DC, and the poor dumb elitist politicians want to bring in more illegals, good luck, its your neck that they want! "

BIG SURPRISE: More Democratic Voters Against Amnesty wrote on May 23, 2007 8:39 PM: " The measure now in the Senate is opposed by 47 percent of Republicans, 51 percent of Democrats. More Democratic voters are against this Amnesty Bill because traditionally they bear most of the effects of Illegal Immigration. They are more likely to live in close quarters with Illegal Immigrants and they are more likely to be effected by depressed wages of millions of low skilled and desperate Immigrants. They are also more likely to suffer the ill effects in their public education system and the social services. "

Robert wrote on May 24, 2007 7:00 AM: " The most controversial component of the Senate's Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007 is Title VI, euphemistically entitled "Nonimmigrants in the United States Previously in Unlawful Status." It would create a new "Z" visa exclusively for illegal aliens. This title would change the status of those who are here illegally to legal, essentially granting amnesty to those "previously in unlawful status." This seriously flawed proposal would undermine the rule of law by granting massive benefits to those who have willfully violated U.S. laws, while denying those benefits to those who have played by the rules and sometimes even to U.S. citizens.
