Poll update: Should most illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay?

A majority of Californians say immigrants help the state’s economy more than they hurt it, according to the latest statewide poll published by the Public Policy Institute of California.
The poll of 2,002 adults across the state in mid-March showed that most Californians believe illegal immigrants should be allowed to apply for work permits in the United States. Even more Californians said they thought most illegal immigrants who had lived and worked here for more than two years should be allowed to apply for legal status.

Here’s how PPIC breaks down the numbers:
11 percent of respondents listed immigration as the most important issue in California today, trailing the economy (35 percent) and education (13 percent).
59 percent of respondents said immigrants are a benefit to California; 34 percent said they were a burden.
66 percent said illegal immigrants should be allowed to apply for work permits; 31 percent said they should not.
72 percent said most illegal immigrants who have lived and worked in the U.S. for at least two years should be given a chance to eventually apply for legal status; 25 percent said they should be deported.
42 percent said they thought Democrats would do a better job of handling immigration; 37 percent favored Republicans for the job.

What a total joke of a poll! 75 PERCENT say DEPORT! How is 26% a majority vote?

Since the new majority of California seems to be Hispanic I can certainly see how they support the above statement!

This is a very sneaky poll. Notice how they split the deportation vote between two questions, with the 3rd question allowing them to stay and obtain work permits. The results will be skewed in favor of the "allow to stay" voters since those in favor of deportation will need to pick between one of two answers.
