Poll shows most oppose DREAM Act
30 November 2010

A new Pulse Opinion Research finds a vast majority of Americans are opposed to the proposed DREAM Act.

The latest poll on the immigration reform legislation finds most Americans (58 percent) oppose the measure, while 38 percent say they support passage of the bill.

Fifty-nine percent of voters believe that the lame duck Congress should limit its activities to completing work on budget and tax issues and leave broad social policies to the newly elected Congress.

The poll comes in the midst of a number of protests by groups supporting and opposing the proposed measure. The proposal (officially titled: Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) would provide undocumented immigrants living in the country a path towards citizenship.

The current bill would tie a path towards citizenship with a number of requirements including completion of a college degree.

Capitol Hill lawmakers are currently considering whether to vote on the bill, which seems to lack the necessary votes for passage.
