Poll Reveals 74% of American Want Stronger Borders
Friday, May 1, 2009, 10:18 AM

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll reveals that 74% of Americans think the United States is not doing enough to prevent illegal crossings at the borders. The poll was conducted in connection with Pres. Barack Obama's 100th day in office and asked respondents questions on social issues ranging from immigration to gay marriage to the legalization of marijuana.

The poll's results matched the President's sentiment during his Wednesday evening press conference where he said that it would be tough to pass immigration reform without proving to Americans that the government can secure the borders. Still, Pres. Obama said he was planning on making a push for amnesty this year.

The Washington Post-ABC News poll results shows an increase in American support for a stronger border. In a Rasmussen Poll conducted in mid-April, 66% of the respondents said the U.S. should tighten up the border to reduce illegal immigration.
