CNN Bans Nancy Grace from “Good Morning America”

Don Irvine — July 5, 2013

Sources have told the New York Post that CNN president Jeff Zucker is “banning all CNN and HLN personalities from appearing on Good Morning America,” effective immediately.

Grace has appeared with ABC legal analyst Dan Abrams to discuss various legal cases in the news, from the disappearance of 6-year-old Isabel Celis to that of former high school teacher and Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader Sarah Jones, who was accused of having sex with one of her students.

A CNN rep told the Post that they weren’t targeting Good Morning America, per se, but were simply asking that CNN/HLN talent “not appear on other networks’ morning shows, unless they are promoting a book or a personal project.”
I think Zucker is being a little short-sighted with this move. While I certainly understand why he wouldn’t want Grace to appear on Fox News or MSNBC, her appearances on “GMA” expose her to a larger audience than is available on cable, and gives her a chance to promote her own program, which is good, on the whole, for CNN/HLN.
And, of course, CNN could always use a few more viewers.
