MEXICO CITY — Authorities said a new list threatening police in the violence-plagued border city of Ciudad Juarez was found Friday with the names of a dozen officers.

A similar list with the names of 22 officers appeared earlier this year at a monument to fallen policemen in Ciudad Juarez. Of the 22, seven were killed, three were wounded in assassination attempts and all but one of the rest quit their jobs.

Police spokesman Jaime Torres said the new list was left at a police station on Friday, and contained the surnames of the officers along with the cryptic notation, "Thank you for waiting."

The earlier list contained a similar cryptic message, "to those who still don't believe."

Perez said some of those named on the new list have resigned already.

Ciudad Juarez has been hit by a wave of killings linked to drug cartels, including the assassination of the city's police director on May 10.

Between Thursday and Friday, at least a dozen people were shot to death in and around Ciudad Juarez. Many of those killings involved assault rifles or drive-by shootings, tactics favored by drug gangs.
