ROSARITO BEACH – Gunmen killed four people, including a 15-year-old boy, in a grain and feed store Thursday night.
With four killings earlier in the day, the total of eight victims amounted to the deadliest day in the city since the violent surge began in the region Sept. 26.

In the latest attack, police said a group of armed men opened fire inside a grain and feed store about 9 p.m. Thursday on Benito Juarez Boulevard, Rosarito Beach's main thoroughfare. Victor Hugo Cortes, 15, was among the four dead. A fifth person was wounded.

Rosarito municipal police officers stopped patrolling some streets for a brief period Friday, demanding greater protection. A half-dozen officers have been killed in the last 11 days.

Also, the department's 12-member traffic division evacuated its office for about an hour at midday Friday when officers became suspicious of some vehicles parked nearby without license plates. Traffic officers are unarmed.
Rumors of potential attacks gripped parts of the city. Some schools closed or sent their students home upon hearing the rumors.

At the Cobach public high school campus, more than half of the 3,000 students left school after hearing rumors that gunmen could attack the school grounds.
