Roughly 80 percent of the toys sold in America are manufactured in China, according to the Toy Industry Association, a trade group for toymakers and importers.

Not included in this statistic is the ongoing tidal wave of cheap and expensive clothing knock offs, furniture, home décor, food items, toiletries and hundreds of other products flooding your nearby Wal-Mart, Pottery Barn, Bombay shop, Target and Costco.

It's not saving any money because the crap from China falls apart in less than a year and you have to replace it.

I hate it when one of my American made kitchen appliances finally gives out because my options are to replace it with a piece of crap from China every other year.

Buy one really good product made in America because they offer good warranties and the products don't fall apart in a year. They will last a lot longer.

How about companies that do make products in America, shouting it out on their packaging, Made in America, by American workers or Support American made products and then having a special logo. Most people buy on price, many out of necessity, without regards to quality, craftsmanship, or where things are made. But others, where price is not a barrier, would buy America as much as possible to keep companies here, research and development here, jobs here, decent living wages here, and the chance for being contaminated or poisoned over there, somewhere else.

I am getting seriously concerned about glassware, drinking and food surfaces that are made in China. Lead is a concern in pottery, glass, ceramics if we go by recent toy recalls, bib recalls, etc. I have some newly purchased plastic glasses and ceramic cooking pieces that have given me some reason to question the makeup of this kitchenware as it says "Made in China." I am going to start making better choices when it comes to what I prepare and cook in and drink from.

I believe the Oreck Vaccum is made in America. Will have to check that out.

Oreck is Made in America, right in Cookeville, Tn. Called the company and after we talked he asked me if I would like to order bags or any accessories. Well, after I laughed, I did just that. Love my Oreck.

Yes, Oreck is made in the USA. As far as labeling goes. I think there may be a NAFTA rule that applies towards the products because it simply makes no sense that they do not plaster big advertising on their packaging.

Any kitchen applience that you may need should be found on BUyDirectUSA.com, if you cannot find what you want send a message and it will be found for you.

Traffic on BuyDirectUSA.com has quadrupled this month, so people are waking up to the dangers of by Made in China.

Hi jp_48504, are you saying that American companies cannot have BIG labels saying MADE IN AMERICA by American workers supporting American families due to NAFTA restrictions/legislation?

Thank you for the information on where to look for American made products.

I cannot say that for sure. I will be looking into it, but it is something that may be hard to find.

I'm getting ready for our annual garage sale. In going through some stuff, I found one of those engineer type, striped caps made by Lee. The labels reads 'union made in the USA'. I decided I might should keep that - my grandkids and their kids for sure will be able to at least see we used to make things.

DixieCheck out estate sales for those appliances. I just bought an old Sunbeam Mixmaster - works like a charm - for $2.50. It will last me for the duration, I'm sure.

My hand mixer is from the 60's, my electric knife is 60's, my Kirby vacuums are old, old, old - and work beautifully - heavy, though.

And don't forget the internet for finding your favorite old appliances that are or were American made. I have enjoyed finding "newer" old things that are well made and American made.
