Unfortunately too many of these unions have forgot that collective bargaining was for employment wages and benefits. They have overreached and stepped too far into politics. There is no fairness and balance. As they cry for solidarity they have forgotten that their members signed on for representation in the workplace, not in the political arena. After reading some articles in my husband's union magazine I was outraged at the anger and slander directed at Republicans and members of the Teaparty. They are not taking into consideration that there are Republicans and members of the Teaparty in the rank and file. To me this is creating havoc and an unhealthy environment for union members that have different political viewpoints.

Here is the first paragraph of a letter my husband received today from the Sheet Metal Workers' International Union, signed by Michael Sullivan, General President.

The recent events in states around the country have served to identify the enemies of working families and define their evil agenda. These governors, legislators and representatives have unleashed a distasteful assault on collective bargaining and the promotion of "right to work for less" legislation and have shown they do not care at all about the people who have elected them but treasure the approval of their corporate masters. Simply put they want to degrade your standard of living and, in my opinion, strip away your Constitutional right of free asssembly.

He offers no facts behind his statement. There has been no call for a vote, not even a survey as to the members points of view.

I have to say this is not the tactics being used by my husband's local, but by the International Union. I am in the process of toning down my husband's outraged reply to this.

I agree the unions shouldnt be mixed up in this whole mess some was created by gread but still the unions have their place without them look at where we would be at,no 40 hour work week no weekends off no overtime pay no holidays off no vacation time no safety equipment no workmans comp. if you do get hurt on the job no child labor laws and a decient wage. The unions have fought for all of these things we have today, even the nonunion workers have the same and they paid no union dues but everybody has a choice to belong to a union or not whats happening here is the poloticions are dividing the country into. There are DEMS. and REPS. working union jobs and we have DEMS. and REPS. working in nonunion jobs and we are all fighting for jobs ILLEGALS are taking from us.My cousin worked a nonunion job for 20 years made good money retired was off work one day and they hired him back at his same position now he draws retirement check and a payroll check and im not mad at him im glad he is doing well im not jelous of what hes got and alot of this fight is over jelousy people getting something the other is not and its dividing our country apart. As you can see by my profile im retired military whitch is nonunion .The fighting men and women have fought wars so we can have a right to choose the way we live they have sacroficed more with little in return so we have the rights we have today to be union nonunion democrat republican independent or whatever we want to be.Lets dont fight amongst ourself thats what the polotitions want us to do. It all boils down to money GOP dont want money going to DEM.and DEMS. dont like big corperation money going to GOP its about someone getting something the other ones not. Lets fight this war on illegals together not at each other we are all AMERICANS reguardless what party we repricent.
