Another Washington 'Tea Party' set for this weekend

Two weeks after a conservative rally drew tens of thousands to the National Capital Mall, Tea Party organizers are planning another for this weekend. CAPTIONBy Jacquelyn Martin, APJust two weeks after cable commentator Glenn Beck and former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin drew tens of thousands for a rally on the National Capital Mall, another group of "Tea Party" activists is planning to march Sunday on the U.S. Capitol.

It's part of what he likes to call the "beautiful chaos" of the conservative movement that the two marches came so close together, according Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, the D.C. think tank that's helping to organize this weekend's events.

They'll be taking place on Sept. 12, a date that many Beck-inspired 9/12 activist groups took for their rallying cry after the conservative talk show host called for a return to the unity the nation experience in the days immediately following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Kibbe said FreedomWorks started planning the event without knowing that Beck already had a separate rally in the works, and decided to go ahead with plans figuring that there were enough Tea Partiers for two rallies.

"My own view is the Tea Party movement is ten-fold bigger than it was last year," said Kibbe.

OK, so the list of speakers for this weekend may not have quite the starpower of a Beck or a Palin. But, hey, the Gatlin Brothers are on the bill.
