IA-Ames turns to rubber sidewalk to avoid keg damage

Ames turns to rubber sidewalk to avoid keg damage
    10:52 AM

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Kegs of beer will soon have a bit of a bounce in Ames.

The city is installing a rubber sidewalk alongside an Iowa State University campus-area fire station, which is a traditional drop-off and delivery point for bars in the area.

Beer distributors now unload hundreds of kegs at the spot every year, and over time they crack the concrete.

City officials decided to install sidewalk pavers built by a California company made of shredded recycled tires. The surface is more expensive than concrete but officials think they'll save money over time through decreased maintenance.

Plus, about 675 tires were diverted from a landfill.

I've heard they are supposed to be pretty good sidewalks. Shame its kegs of beer to qualify.
