More than 1,600 pounds of pot seized outside O'odham village

Border Patrol agents seized more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana Tuesday after watching an SUV veer from the road at the sight of the agents.
On patrol near the village of Queens Well on the Tohono O'odham Reservation, agents came upon a Chevrolet Suburban northbound on a dirt road northeast of the village, according to a statement from the Border Patrol.
The driver turned off the road and drove a short distance, where he stopped the Suburban and ran from the scene. Agents found 71 bundles of marijuana weighing more than 1,600 pounds in the SUV. The driver was not found.
Since October, the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector has recorded more than 669,000 pounds of marijuana seizures, with an estimated value of more than $535 million.
In another seizure Saturday at the Lukeville Port of Entry, customs agents seized 431 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the hull of a boat. Three U.S. citizens from Phoenix, who were not identified, were arrested.
