Liberals Outraged Over Rick Warren's Obama Invocation
Liberals Outraged Over Rick Warren's Obama Invocation
Thursday, December 18, 2008 7:10 AM
By: Tim Collie
President-elect Barack Obama triggered a liberal firestorm Wednesday with the announcement that noted evangelical minister Rick Warren would deliver an invocation at his inauguaration.
The celebrity preacher at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., who hosted an important forum on faith with Obama and John McCain during the presidential campaign, is a best-selling author who fills stadiums with his sermons.
While liberal partisans were up in arms, some political analysts described the move as brilliant, a gesture not only to white social conservatives but an astute nod to the African-American and Latino communities, which are notably more conservative on religious and social issues than mainstream whites.
Blacks especially played a key role in supporting Proposition 8, the recently passed California ballot initiative that banned gay marriage in that state. Warren and his church also was a leader in that effort.
“… For Obama, making a statement about his inclusiveness and willingness to reach across ideological lines is more important than satisfying liberals on every issue as he has shown with his cabinet choices,’’ noted the Swamp, the political blog for the Chicago Tribune.
Liberal outrage, the post continued, “may help Obama with some centrist and more conservative voters. Also, many African American churchgoers tend to share Warren's views on social issues. So the issue is more complicated than simply right and left.â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Obama---the Master Machiavellian. If he actually started attending a black, fundamentalist church in DC, I might think differently.

I bet Wright is steaming. LOL Obama used him and his church to get where he is and he wants his dues. LOL
Now if Obama thinks that will put a good light on him by have Warren say a prayer, he has another think coming. He views are so liberal they can never align with scripture. So may be fooling himself, but he's not fooling me.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Rick Warren is cool!
I like Rick Warren! I'm shocked that Obama has included him in the festivities!
Isn't it interesting that all the so-called "open minded" people are only "open" to their own brand of liberalism?Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Afro-Americans in my age group must certainly recall the days when (then) American Negroes were included in occasions of state only when they were called upon either to sing or to present a prayer. These "token gestures" served to "include them" without really doing so. Sounds like Obama plans to illustrate from the outset of his administration, and perhaps in not a very nice way, how the tables have now been turned.

Well, remember the question answer session that Obama and McCain had at Warren's church. If he didn't have Wright who would he have? Makes sense only from that angle.

I stopped listening to Pastor Rick Warren a l o n g time ago because he was getting way too caught up material globalism. It figures he would be speaking at Obama's inaguration.

Who cares. Now if Obama had made Reverend Chuck Baldwin head of Homeland Security, then I would believe he intentends to be "inclusive".

Obama is playing an astounding deck of cards. I feel I have no idea what his administration will be, as it appears that his appointments and now with the inauguration thing, there is very little assurance, IMO, that his campaign rhetoric may dissolve in the current economic crisis.
I have an idea he is capable of slamming a paw on those that do not serve American citizens, as his tush is definitely on the line.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
