With all due respect. Why would we Americans here in the United States celebrate Cesar E Chavez?

A Cesar Chavez Day would be fine with me, as long as his position on illegal aliens was required reading for that day.

From Wikipedia - In 1969, Chávez and members of the UFW marched through the Imperial and Coachella Valleys to the border of Mexico to protest growers' use of illegal aliens as temporary replacement workers during a strike. Joining him on the march were both Reverend Ralph Abernathy and U.S. Senator Walter Mondale. Chávez and the UFW would often report suspected illegal aliens who served as temporary replacement workers as well as those who refused to unionize to the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

IMHO, Cesar Chavez and the UFW fought for the rights of ALL migrant farm workers, including the poor, white Okies that populated the Central Valley at the time. When he spoke at rallies he spoke in English.

    Thanks for the History lesson.
Sounds like he was a decent man. Ironic though. The very thing Cesar was against is the very reason Congress is asking for a day in his Honor. The Illegal Alien Invasion.

As good and honorable of a man as he seemed to be, it just doesn't seem right the Illegals get this passed.

Isn't this just a bit much? Let's have a public holiday for each demographic in American society so everyone can be made to feel special. I see that only males have been commemorated thus far and I'm feeling kind of left out. So, I think the female populace needs to lobby Congress to set aside a public holiday for Susan B. Anthony. Come on ladies, what do you say?
