    ? for Wm for Mods

I there anything we can do to have the E-verify progam placed at the polling sites for the Presidential race? I can't see the ACLU fighting it...they can't be that un-American. Besides, in Mexico they check everyones fingerprint to make sure ONLY legal citizens vote.

This is the most important Presidential race ever, and to have it decided by people who should not be here voting is wrong.

Interesting idea. However, the ACLU would never knowingly go for it...unfortunately. Imagine: asking a person to prove their citizenship - how outrageous!!! [Yes, dry, ironic sarcasm intended ]

[Note: it is against Federal law to vote in a Federal election. Local/State elections have much wider latitude in defining and enforcing ID / credentials than for Fed elections]

In one of the states issuing licenses to ILLEGAL ALIENS, the license has a RED BAND around it. This should preclude their voting, as the red band signifies NON-CITIZEN.

Even in NY, the 3rd class license would have designated those using them as ILLEGAL ALIENS, and therefore, NON-CITIZENS. Only those with the 1st class license should have been eligible to vote.

I wonder if all the states issuing licenses to ILLEGALS have done anything to preclude the licenses from being used to vote?

CJ: The answer from my view - No.
They even include instructions on where to receive your multi-lingual ballot summary booklet and other voting information (at least the last time I looked). Now, if you're a citizen (or, even legal resident), why in the world would a person not be able to read/write English, anyhow?

I heard that if you didn't register to vote, there is at the polling site is an affidavit you sign that you're a citizen. Remember in this country we work on the honor system. Don't know is this is countrywide or only in states with large amounts of illegals. Remember the 9-11 hijackers were all registered to vote.

Illinois you don't have to prove you are a citizen anyhow, just sign an affidavit that says you are. You don't have to have a social security number. Remember, this is great state of Chicago.

If we cannot verify your identity through a valid driver’s license
number or social security number, you will need to provide
    identification before you can vote.
    Acceptable forms of identification include:
a copy of a current and valid photo ID, or
a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government
check, paycheck, or other government document that shows
    your name and address.
A copy of your identification can be mailed in an envelope to this office
along with this registration form, or can be shown the first time you
    vote.

Sorry for so many posts, but this issue is really bothering me. In NY where l live, yeah, l know..great Governor, but l pulled down a registration copy of the votig application off the web, and there a box to check if you DO NOT have a SS or drivers license!

I called my local board of elections and they had never noticed it nor knew what it meant....but I DID! No one has ever gotten back to me about it.

Edited to add, I've often wondered how confusing this is to immigrants. How do they know what we mean by citizen? It has to be very confusing to an immigrant trying to do the right thing even.

They probably handle it like Illinois. A SS# is not required to vote in any state as far as I know.

IF you don't have one you can still register. The id is to prove only minimal id, in illinois a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, anything that shows you live in the state, is all they are minimally concerned with is residency.

I called here in Illinois. Talked to my Senators. It would "disenfranchise" voters is their excuse.
