America is at war overseas but that is not to say our nation may not also face a cultural war here at home.

And if so, one battle in that war is being waged right now.

It's a secular vs. religious debate commonly tossed around law schools.

The separation of church and state.

As Fahnia Thomas explains, one resident feels the message on city buses could be crossing the line.

A reversal in city policy tonight regarding that mini controversy this week about the L-C-D messages flashing on the "marquis" of city buses.

The marquis read "God Bless America" at times and some people took offense to that reference to God.

After our report aired yesterday, city leaders say they've given the messages consideration and have returned the messages to the buses.

Yesterday, public works director Tom Warner said the messages would not be used by the contracted busing company any longer.

Late today Beaumont mayor Becky Ames told us about the opinions of city leaders on the issue.

Beaumont city attorney Tyrone Cooper says there is nothing illegal about the messages - saying they do not require commuters to believe in God to ride the bus.

IT JUST SAYS "GOD BLESS AMERICA" FCOL. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL? THE BUSES ARE NOT REALLY A CITY GOVERNING AGENCY. THEY ARE RUN BY THE CITY......BUT IT IS DIFFERENT. IT IS JUST A PATRIOTIC EXPRESSION. LIKE "ONE NATION UNDER GOD". ITS JUST A TRADITIONAL EXPRESSION. AND I AM AN AGNOSTIC AND DEFINITELY NOT IN FAVOR OF MIXING CHURCH AND STATE. I DONT SEE THE BIG DEAL. I DONT AGREE THAT "GOD BLESS AMERICA" IS A TRULY RELIGIOUS MESSAGE.
