Latino Voter Registration Kick-Off Event (Santa Rosa)

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking in front of a very distinguished group of individuals at Santa Rosa’s Roseland Elementary School for the Latino Voter Registration Drive Kick-Off event. The event was organized by the Coalition for Latino Civic Engagement, otherwise known as CLACE.

I was very proud to be a part of this event as the day was dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of voting, as well as to targeting a pivotal growing population in our country that will inevitably change the face of our elected officials- Latinos.

About one in three Californians is Latino, and by about 2040, Latinos are expected to become the racial/ethic majority in the state (according to the Public Policy Institute of California). However, California’s voting population does not yet reflect our state’s diversity.

I was very humbled to listen to the experiences that were shared by individuals who came from different countries and, through the process of naturalization, were allowed to vote in our country. They spoke about their experience of becoming a U.S. citizen and how they valued this privilege and therefore their right to vote today.

I share my experience with all of you who read my newsletter only to reflect and emphasize the importance of voting. We need to encourage those who have not yet registered to vote to take the first step and register as a voter, so that they too can exercise their right to vote in this year’s primary and general election.

It's already started with the Sanchez sisters and Joe Baca etc. They don't vote American they vote racially.
