Thirteen killed in Tijuana
The execution-style killings of six men in eastern Tijuana early today are under investigation, this morning, following a bloody weekend that left seven others dead in various parts of the city. The spike in killings follows weeks of relative calm.

The Baja California Attorney General's Office confirmed the deaths, and said more details would be forthcoming later today. The bodies were found near a public hospital, La Clinica Uno del Seguro Social.

The weekend's previously reported seven victims , discovered Saturday and early Sunday, were found in five separate areas, and included shootings and at least one stabbing according to the Baja California Attorney General's Office.

A surge in violence in recent months has taken place as the Mexican government steps up efforts to fight organized crime. Recent killings have been attributed to rivalries between small organized crime cells operating in the region with less control since the weakening of the once-dominant Arellano Felix cartel.
