NYC is incredibly expensive, swarming with people/always looks like rush hour, filled with foreigners. You can go online to craigslist to get an idea of prices for a place to live. Overall you get a closet size apartment for a whole bunch of money. Another overall is everyone is rude.
Only the rich can enjoy NYC. The upper east side is very nice, your neighbor might be Christopher Walkens drinking white wine & smoking cigarettes on his balcony. Guess it is the most expensive major city to live in. Very fast town. That also applies to scammers, con artists.
It is no picnic, the waters are rising and a few years ago the lower end of Manhattan was submerged in water. The residents had no trash pickup for weeks - you can only imagine with the density of population what that was like.
Every kind of business is there and top notch in the arts. Many like Brooklyn instead, not every area is nice so would have to check it out - much more affordable & subway into town. Don't even think @ Bronx or Queens.
