Somali workers want Ramadan prayers

GREELEY, Colo., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Muslim workers at a Colorado meat-packing plant say that JBS Swift & Co. has reneged on a plan to make accommodations for Ramadan.

About 150 people protested Monday in a park 2 miles from the plant, the Greeley Tribune reported Tuesday. They had planned to march to the plant but remained in the park.

The workers, most of them from Somalia, said that supervisors told them not to come to work on Monday. They said that the company said it was trying to change break times to give them the opportunity for prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Swift plant was the target of an immigration raid in December 2006, where 260 alleged undocumented workers were arrested. Employees from Somalia and elsewhere in East Africa working on temporary visas were brought in as replacements.

Sorry, but no. Religion was taken away from schools, workplaces and public places a long time ago. It was relegates to homes and places of worship. You're in AMERICA now, deal with it!
If they get Ramadan, I want Christmas, Easter and my holy days back. I'm sure Jews want their holy days too. Pretty soon, we will have nothing BUT holy days.

Equal treatment for all here legally.

Devout Muslims pray five times a day, and during Ramadan do not eat during daylight hours to cleanse their bodies. Many are so fanatical that they won't even brush their teeth for fear of accidentally swallowing toothpaste. Now that person would make an ideal close co-worker, while you have to cover while prayer goes on.

This is all about greed among our corporate leaders as they sell our country and control our government, this is not economics 101 as many want you to believe it is simply terrible greed killing America.

Somebody please explain to me how and why, with the unemployment rate Americans are suffering, foreigners were brought in to fill these positions?? Did I miss something, or were there not Americans lined up to take these jobs? If there were, I hope and pray that they will seek legal council as they were surely discriminated against because they are American.

They brought in the foreign workers because our government caters to corporations and promotes the hiring of cheap foreign labor thus letting them out of paying the Citizens a prevailing wage and treating them like Humans.

Why are Muslims even working in a meat packing plant, aren't they offended by killing pigs and cutting them up? After all they cannot eat pork.
