READINGTON - An FBI agent was shot dead in a shooting incident when he was staking out a bank robbery gang allegedly responsible for a string of bank robberies in the country.
The agent was tailing the gang and walked into an ambush. The agent was killed in the subsequent shootout in the parking lot of the Arvins Garden Center on Route 22 in Readington, N.J. Police officials have revealed that two suspects have been caught while a third escaped. The name of the agent was not released pending family notification.

The officials came across the gang while the suspects were leaving a PNC bank on Route 22. The agent was immediately rushed to the hospital by helicopter but all the efforts to save his life failed. The latest death brings the number of FBI agents killed in action to 35 since 1908.

Police officials have closed off Route 22 as search goes on to catch the third suspect. Officials believe that the suspects were holding at least one individual as hostage inside the bank. Helicopters and sniffer dogs have been called on to assist the police in the search.

The agent was part of a squad assigned to track a group believed to be responsible for a string of violent holdups in the central part of New Jersey, the Star-Ledger of Newark (N.J.) reported. The shooting took place in Readington, N.J., on Route 22.

Two suspects were in custody Thursday afternoon and police were searching for a third, the newspaper said.

The shooting occurred after a robbery at a PNC Bank branch on Route 22. The agent was believed to be following the suspects.

The suspect being sought was wearing a ski mask during the robbery and carrying two red bags. He is believed to have lost a shoe.

I saw this news on Fox as it was unfolding.
I haven't heard the status of the guy yet. If he is an illegal, you can bet we will hear about it soon.

I hear ya 2ndamendsis. Jersey needs to shake the illegals off like fleas from a dog.

If they are to serve hard time send them to border to work on the fence. We all know that labor is the most expensive part of any construction job and if we use illegal criminals then we have cheap labor and the cost goes down.
