LEXINGTON – The 22-year-old Lexington man cited for driving under the influence in an accident that left four injured, two critically, has fled the country.

An arrest warrant was issued for Marvin Francisco Portillo-Ramos in regard to an accident Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 near the south end of the Adams Street overpass.

According to officer’s reports from that evening, Portillo-Ramos was driving a white 1991 Isuzu Rodeo and traveling westbound, failing to stop at the stop sign located at the corner of Adams and Elm Streets. Portillo-Ramos hit a Chevy Impala traveling in the northbound direction in the passenger side, forcing it to spin around in the intersection and go through the west side chain link containment fence along the side of the overpass.

Rescue personnel and law enforcement responded to the scene. The four men riding in the Impala were removed from the vehicle and taken to Tri-County Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle received facial lacerations, one passenger received several facial and head trauma and was later transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for additional treatment. A third victim, who had to be cut from the Impala, received severe life-threatening head and facial injuries and was life-flighted to Good Samaritan where he was listed in critical care and continues to remain on life support.

When police officers interviewed Portillo-Ramos at the scene, they observed watery, bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol on his breath. He told officers he had five beers at the Premier Nightclub and was on his way home when the accident occurred.

On Portillo-Ramos’ citation, he was given a court date of Oct. 22, 2009, at which he failed to appear. After numerous attempts to locate Portillo-Ramos, officers learned from his girlfriend and mother of his child that he had fled the Lexington area, en route back to his home country of Guatemala.

A warrant has been issued for his immediate arrest.
